How to Embed OneDrive Files into a Website?

OneDrive (previously SkyDrive, Windows Live SkyDrive, and Windows Live Folders) is a file hosting service that allows users to sync files and later access them from a web browser or mobile device.

If you have a website or a blog, you may want to use some of your OneDrive files on your page to enhance it with videos, text or photos. OneDrive, which is Microsoft’s file-storing software, allows you to embed files/folders into your website with couple of easy steps. All you need to do is retrieve a code from OneDrive and place into your website or blog.

Steps to Embed

  1. Sign into the OneDrive website with your Microsoft account. Navigate to the file(s) you want to embed into your website.
  2. Check the check box in the upper right corner of the file/folder in order to select it (as depicted in above image). Select only one file/folder at a time.
  3. Click on “Embed” at the top rightmost of the page. Then, click “Generate“, you will get the code as shown in the image below.
  4. OneDrive will display a code  within an <iframe> which you can use for your website or blog.

TIP for WordPress Users: If your blog or website is in WordPress, add a Text widget wherever you want to place these files and paste the above fetched code in there.

Remember these Points

  • If you want a few files to be embedded into your website, it will be easier to just embed them individually. This way, the code won’t be jumbled and will still work.
  • Whether you use WordPress or a specific domain, it should be fairly simple to paste the code into your website.
  • Keep the OneDrive tab open in case you lose the code so you can easily retrieve it again and continue pasting your files from OneDrive in the future.
