How to Unlink Instagram From Facebook

Which is your favorite: Facebook or Instagram? Personally, I use Facebook far more than its photo app. As a matter of fact, I just discovered I needed to download Instagram in order to take screenshots for this article. That is how little I use it.

We cannot even assign an age-range to one or the other. I have friends and family of all ages who regularly use both applications – and many who prefer one or the other. I have an aunt in her 80s who absolutely loves Instagram and know teens who live on Facebook.

No matter which you prefer or spend time on, you cannot use Instagram without at least having an active Facebook account since Zuckerberg bought out the highly popular picture-sharing app.

What happens, though, if you do decide you no longer want to have your Instagram and Facebook accounts linked together? How do you separate and unlink them?

How to Unlink Instagram From Facebook

Open up your Instagram app and tap on your profile. Now, click the three horizontal lines at the top-right of the screen.

From the menu that opens up, choose ”Settings.”

Now, tap on the ”Account” option.

Next, choose ”Linked Accounts.”

Here, you will see a list of social media networks that your Instagram account may (or may not) be linked to. Any that are currently linked are highlighted blue and have a checkmark to the right of them, as shown below.

Tap the name of the site you wish to unlink and then scroll down to choose the ”Unlink” button in Android. For you iOS users, you will tap ”Unlink Account.”

You will want to follow these same steps for any and all social media profiles you no longer want to share your Instagram photos to or have linked with. You should definitely go through and unlink these accounts prior to uninstalling Instagram from your device and/or especially if giving away or selling your phone. It is just another precaution to keep in the back of your mind for your safety.

How to Remove All Instagram Posts From Facebook

Let’s say you wish to go a step further and remove all of the Instagram posts you have shared to Facebook. This is actually something you can do! Open up Facebook in a browser… NOT the app.

From the drop-down arrow at the top-right of the screen, choose ”Settings.” Within the menu that opens on the left, choose ”Apps and Websites.”

If you do not see Instagram in the list that populates, you will have to click ”Show All.” Click on the Instagram app (and I STRONGLY urge you to also check all others you no longer need or use to revoke their access to your Facebook account!) and then click the blue ”Remove” at the top-right of the screen. You will then receive this confirmation box:

Click the little box next to where it states ”Also delete all posts, photos and videos on Facebook these apps and websites may have published on your behalf.” Now, click ”Remove” and you are finished. Everything that Instagram (and any other apps you selected) has posted to your Facebook account has automagically been removed.

What other Instagram or Facebook questions do you have for me that I can unravel?

Happy photo sharing!
