Microsoft Releases December 2019 Surface Pro 7 Firmware Update

Microsoft has released the December 2019 firmware update for Surface Pro 7, which is the latest Surface Pro 7 version announced by Microsoft earlier this year.

This is the second firmware update that the Surface Pro 7 receives since launch.

There are lots of improvements this month, and while you can check out the full changelog in the box after the jump, there are a few improvements that are worth highlighting here.

First and foremost, Microsoft is updating the Intel Control Logic for improved camera and associated system bugcheck performance. Similar driver updates are also available for other camera modules and Intel imagining signal processor 2500 and Intel AVStream Camera 2500.

Additionally, this firmware update introduces refinements for the battery performance of the Surface Pro 7, so owners should notice improved battery life. The Surface UEFI driver is updated to version, bringing tweaks for the Surface Dock USB performance.

Windows 10 version 1903 required

This new firmware update requires devices to run Windows 10 version 1903 or newer – this shouldn’t be a problem anyway, as the Surface Pro 7 was announced in October, so all units should come with version 1903 pre-installed. However, customers who update to the latest Windows 10 release, which is the November 2019 Update (version 1909) should be offered the new firmware update as well.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is available with a $200 discount from $749 and can be ordered with a choice of 3 processors, namely Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, and Intel Core i7. RAM options start at 4GB and go up to 16GB, while for storage you can choose between 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

The top-of-the-range configuration is available today for $2,099 with the Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and 1TB storage. A Type Cover, however, needs to be purchased separately.
